CULTURAL VISITS For discovering!
The Axarquía region, unknown to many, is located in the eastern part of the province of Malaga and hidden in the privileged historical-artistic scenery of the capital, Vélez- Malaga, as well as the other villages that comprise this region.
The name Alhama of Granada comes from a word in Arabic, meaning warm waters, which demarcate the places through which thermal water flows. Situated on the cliffs overlooking the river, Alhama has a clear Arabic influence. Its origin traces back to the first water power stations at its natural springs, and its strategic location was responsible for the decisive fall of the reign and the conquest of Granada, which lead to the beginning of a period of thriving growth, thanks to the patronage of the Catholic Kings. Near the urban center, along the river -also named Merchán-, the enormous poplar grove extends outwards, protecting the two seaside resorts.
